Born in London, Frederick Goodall studied painting under his father, a silver line engraver, and at the Wellington Road Academy. Much of his work was inspired by his many visits to Egypt. Goodall was the recipient of many awards, prizes and medals including the silver medal of the Society of Arts.
His paintings are held in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the Tate Gallery, the Royal Academy in London and the Guildhall Art Gallery. Goodall exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1839–1902. He was elected Associate of the Royal Academy in 1852, and to full membership in 1863. We are pleased to offer this sensitive figural study painted when the artist was sixty-six.
