Luciano Spazzali first studied at the Academy of Art in Bologna from 1932 to 1937 under Giorgio Morandi. Spazzali did not begin to exhibit his work until 1951 when he was awarded both the Biennale Internazionale d’Arte in Genoa and the National Painting Prize. Over his career, Luciano Spazzali has been the recipient of numerous medals, prizes and juried awards including the Marzotto prize in 1953, the Michetti prize in 1953, 1958 and 1959, and the four year Roman award stipend in 1965.
