A vibrant and substantial, Modernist figural oil showing a man standing with his arms raised and gazing directly towards the viewer.

 

Born in Vu Lang in Thai Binh province, North Vietnam in 1965, Nguyen Khanh Toan studied at the painting section of Hanoi's University of Industrial Arts, graduating in 1992. Toan participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, exhibiting widely and with success, both in Vietnam and internationally, including in Freiburg, Germany in 1998 and in Stuttgart, in 2004. After Toan's early passing in 2014, the artist was honored by the city of Hanoi with the naming of a major thoroughfare in his memory.
