Born in 1847 at Neuville-Champ-d’Oisel, Louis Le Poittevin first studied at the
Ècole des Beaux-Arts in Paris with William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury. In 1877, he first exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Françaises and he continued to show there with success for over thirty years. Le Poittevin received numerous medals and honorable mentions at the Salon (1883, 1886, 1888). He was also awarded medals at the Universal Expositions of 1889 and 1900. Le Poittevin’s work may be found in the permanent collections of French national museums and his paintings are highly sought after at auction. We are pleased to offer this sensitive and lyrical work, dating to the last quarter of the nineteenth century and illustrating the timeless rhythms of rural life.
