HANS HILSOE
(Danish, 1871-1942)
THE DRAWING ROOM, 1935
Oil on Canvas
20 x 24 Inches
Signed and Dated Lower Right ‘Hans Hilsoe, 1935’
Framed in a Period Carved Gilt-wood and Gesso Frame
Hilsoe reverently invests his meticulous, meditative renderings of elegant interiors with a mystical luminosity reminiscent of the best of the 17th century Dutch Interior School. Hilsoe’s unpopulated interior scenes may be found in public and private collections throughout the world and have sold for above $30,000 at auction. We are pleased to offer this exceptional example of the artist’s work in which his keen eye for detail and his mastery of color and form are given full scope for expression. Among the numerous notable elements in this work may be mentioned the complex porcelain figural group at left and the remarkable handling of filtered light as it falls on the still-lives at the rear of the room.
